NordicTrack X16 Treadmill Review - New Incline Trainer

The NordicTrack X16 is the newest version of the company's popular incline treadmills, along with the step-up X24 model. Both offer industry leading incline and decline capability, something you just don't find anywhere else.

These treadmills are ideal for more serious runners, giving you the ability to really ramp up your training (no pun intended) and mimic a true outdoor run.

Let's dive into our review to see what the X16 is all about...

X16 - The Machine

The NordicTrack X16 has a modern yet boxy look, all black and similar to the newly designed Commercial Series offerings from the company.

The pivoting and tilting touch screen is one of the main differences from previous versions of the incline trainer, allowing you to choose the ideal viewing angle for on and off machine workouts.

Let's take a look at some of the other important features...

The Buzz

Of all of the home fitness brands, NordicTrack definitely updates/upgrades their treadmills and other cardio equipment most often. And with each redesign the technology seems to get better and better.

The new NordicTrack X16, along with the step-up NordicTrack X24, are perfect examples of this. They're just jam packed with all of the features and capabilities that you could want in a home treadmill.

For starters, as we mentioned above, you get up to 40% incline capability, which is by far the most you'll find anywhere. Typically you get 12 or 15% at the most, maybe 20% here and there.

But on top of that you also get decline capability, even more rare, and it goes down to 6%. If you do find decline it usually tops out at 3%.

Next you have the new 16" pivoting touch screen display (24" on the X24 model) which allows you to choose the perfect angle for your workout, even if you choose to work out off the machine. Touch screens are definitely becoming more commonplace these days, but rarely do they tilt and pivot. They're typically fixed in one position, and it's not always ideal.

The NordicTrack X16 also comes with a stronger motor than the previous X22i and X32i models had, at 4.25 CHP. It also has a higher maximum user weight capacity, at 400 lbs as opposed to 300 lbs on older models.

The big draw of NordicTrack treadmills as well as sister company ProForm is of course iFIT, an immersive workout program exclusive to these two brands (Note: Matrix treadmills currently feature iFIT as well.)

It offers over 10,000 trainer led workout programs to choose from, and you can select locations all around the world and train virtually with Google maps.

iFIT requires a monthly or yearly membership (they used to offer free trials but that seems to be gone), but it's well worth the price given the ever-growing features. One of the newest ones is an AI Coach that schedules all of your workouts.

Beyond the great incline and decline, huge touch screen and all of the iFIT workouts, you also get a well cushioned large 22" x 60" deck, workout fan, charging port, water bottle holders and everything else you need for a great workout.

How Does the NordicTrack X16 Compare to the Other Treadmills?

iFit Coach With Tracking & Streaming

There are currently only two NordicTrack Incline Trainers on the market: the X16 and the X24. (The X22i and X32i were recently discontinued)

The only real difference between the two is the size of the touchscreen...16" on the X16 and 24" on the X24. Otherwise the two machines look exactly the same.

Both models have 40% incline capability and 6% decline capability, 4.25 CHP motors, 0-12 mph speed and 22" x 60" belts.

The Commercial Series treadmills (1250, 1750 & 2450) don't have the same incline/decline capability. You get up to 12% incline and 3% decline. They are also foldable for easy storage...the Incline Trainers don't fold.

The T Series treadmills are more entry level/less durable than the Commercial Series & Incline Trainers. There's no decline, smaller motors, lower top speeds and smaller deck sizes.

NordicTrack X16 Review - Bottom Line

The new NordicTrack X16 is a nice improvement on the previous incline trainers. The touch screens now pivot, you can also stream apps, the max weight capacity is higher and the motor is stronger as well.

These treadmills are on the pricier side, so if you're not a serious runner you should consider the Commercial Series as well. They have less incline and decline but perfectly capable of providing great workouts.

No matter which NordicTrack treadmill you choose, you'll be very happy with your workout!
