UPDATE: The Maxx Competitor 1080 has been discontinued. You can take a look at all of the most popular models for sale here to compare specs and prices of current Gold's Gym treadmills.
One of the better features on the budget-priced Gold’s Gym Maxx Competitor 1080 treadmill includes the ComfortTrack™ Adjustable Cushioning, allowing you to change the support of the treadmill deck from soft and springy to a firmer feel like running on a road.
This model also features a roomy 20" x 60" tread belt, a powerful G-Force 2" 2.5 HP Commercial Plus motor with an internal cooling fan, QuickSelect™ Speed and Incline controls, a 300-lb. user capacity, and a solid 200-lb frame measuring 79.2" x 34" x 54.8".
The treadmill reviews on this model cite the great value for the money as well as the quiet operation, large running deck, strong motor and challenging programs. Home assembly takes two people about 2 hours but it isn’t difficult.
The MSRP on the Gold’s Gym Maxx Competitor 1080 is $999 but we have seen this treadmill for as low as $798. It rates well in most of the important areas such as the quality of the motor and belt, customizable deck cushioning, noise level and smooth operation, and variety of programming.
The warranty is weak but you can purchase extended coverage for a nominal fee at checkout. Since it comes with free shipping, the additional warranty cost is a bargain. If you can get it for under $800, the Gold’s Gym Maxx Competitor 1080 treadmill is a decent buy.
However, once it hits $999, its value declines and in that case we recommend you consider the Smooth 5.65 treadmill (3 years parts/electronics warranty) or the new Livestrong LS9.9T treadmill with its club model features.
